Yoga Weekend Retreats Spring 2014

Spring time up at Salvey Mühle.

I had the pleasure of hosting two lovely weekend up at Salvey Mühle this spring.  I returned there for my 9 and 10th time.  There is a sense of coming home there.  The familiarity is comforting and welcoming. Many of the students have been there before too.  It is so nice remeeting each other over and over again.  It is pleasure to have the time, the quiet, and the space together over the changing seasons and years.

Karen the artist who runs the Mühle with Rainer, said to me, “Your groups are always the nicest.”  I don't know about the other groups, but I do feel blessed each time with a fabulous international varied mix of people. Often the first meal together can be filled with awkward silences as people get to know each other but that wasn't so the last two weekends.  In fact, at times the chatting got so big, we needed to quieten ourselves down.   One of the things I especially enjoy is chopping veg for the next meal while listening the to happy chatter and laughter waft in from next door.

Another thing I love about Salvey Mühle is its surrounding nature.  So beautiful with the rolling hills, the fields, the creak, the pond/lake and the forest.  This spring there was beaver action!!

Fantastically felled trees and inspiring engineered damns.  Hard working animals indeed.  I think we all had fun checking it out and sharing our own impressions of what we saw.

As in the past, along with the 6 yoga classes and the meditation sittings, there was lots of eating. I thought I would share another recipe.

Cook it with please and enjoy it with love.
Easy Beet Root or Carrot Salad:
Peel and grate fresh organic beet roots or carrots

Toppings:
Add in any combination:
Raisins
Walnuts
Sesame Seeds
Almonds
I have heard grated pear is also especially good with beet root.

Dressing:
Either canola (raps) oil on its own or mixed with tahini.

Toss it all together and enjoy on its own or with rice.

The salads I served were combined like this:
Carrots with raisins and almonds and canola oil
and
Beet root with raisins and sesame seeds and tahini and canola oil

I hope those who joined me are all continuing to feel the benefit from the weekend away:from their time of rest, yoga, and fresh air and from their time of being supported and taken care of. May your breath and the time you dedicate to yourselves always be of immense support and inspiration to you.

This summer I will go off and enjoy further training with Paul and Suzee Grilley and an other silent retreat with Sarah and Ty Powers. After that I will have the pleasure to host and teach four fall Yoga weekends in four different locations.

September 26-28:   Rosenwald, Groß Kreutz
October 10-12:     Salvey Mühle, Gartz
November 7-9:      Hotzan Hof, Spreewald
November 28-30:    Gästehaus Seebeck, Vielitzsee

I wish you all peace and joy,
erinbell.

The Importantce of Time Out

Yoga Weekend Nov. 8-10, 2013

Time Out.

Time and space away.

My yoga weekends are about making and taking time out from our daily activity, our daily, weekly, monthly, ever present busyness.  They offer one time to stop, check in, and relax.

Time to exhale
              and then slowly, smoothly, evenly
inhale.
It is a joy to be able to create and hold the space for people to come, relax, and recharge. These weekends are for me about taking care, serving, and nourishing people. Each guest comes, puts down her/his suitcase, and is invited to land, fully and completely land, in the here and now.

We all need time out.

I know how important my retreats have become for me. I cherish them and make sure I make the time for them, for my well being and for the well being of those around. Frankly, I am a much better mother, wife, friend, daughter, and teacher because of the time I make for myself. Through strengthening my connection to myself and the present moment, I am more fully available to those around me.

It came up a few times on the weekend how important this time for oneself away from our daily life is. We agreed that there is more of it needed for everyone. Not that everyone needs to do yoga retreats, but everyone deserves time and space for themselves away from the many distractions of busy living.

Do yoga or sleep in?
Do yoga or take a walk?
Meditate or have a nap?

Each person has the space do as much or as little yoga as they want or need. Everyone has time and space for themselves. That's important. Honoring our right to choose what we want to do with our time is vital to our health and well being.

And of course there is always plenty of food and tea and coffee and food and cookies and chocolate and more food and chocolate fondue and...
To help extend the benefits of this weekend and strengthen the connection and comfort provided by surrendering to now, I gave homework:

6 to 12 minutes a days of time out.
For the extremely busy, 10 conscious breaths a day.
Sitting or lying
Feeling/watching your breath
Now I am inhaling.
Now I am exhaling.

How we breathe effects how we feel and the health of our physical body. Deep diaphragmatic breathing stimulates the vagus nerve which sends impulses to our cells that we are safe and we can relax. Deep breathing calms our heart rate, decrease inflammation in the body, repairs brain tissues, and aids in (nutritional and emotional)digestion.

Our time out, our meditation practice, gives us the power to recognise what is present. We begin to see what is arising and what is passing away. It gives us space and time to choose our actions. It aids us in being able to meet what arrives; a focused mind suffers less. Our 6 to 12 minutes are our daily mini yoga retreats. They gives us time. Time to stop, check in, and relax.

Time to exhale
              and then slowly, smoothly, evenly
inhale.

Love, joy, and laughter to all you wonderful people.

May your homework continue to serve you and support you.

Peace,
erinbell.

English Yoga Weekends in Germany (near Berlin)

Oct. 18 - 20 and Nov. 8 - 10, 2013
Both fully booked
These yoga weekends are all about letting yourself be taken care of and spoiled. Time to slow down and recharge. Time to let go, soak up the beauty of nature and breathe in fresh clear air. Time to untie knots in the body and eat plenty of delicious food. Time to connect with other interesting people. Time for yourself to do as much or as little as you wish to do. Time to ground yourself, stretch and strengthen your body in a sportive class. Time for you.
Julie will be joining us again in November, offering Shiatsu Massage for all those interested. From our last weekend, one person exclaimed, "she has golden fingers and golden elbows."  Another said, "she's magic." Everyone floated off her body cushions with happy dazed smiles. It is a highly recommended bonus to the weekend.

The weekends also come with the added bonus of a SAUNA at Salvey Mühle.

Plenty of pictures and feedback are on my website

See spring pictures and read my blog (with recipes) about our last weekend there in April.
